To start getting into side star, be seated on the hoop with one leg in front and one behind. The bottom bar should be in the knee of the front leg. One way to get to that point is through delilah mount, or you could start from a standard seat, slide back onto your knees, and take one leg out and back.
If your right leg is in front, keep your right hand on the top bar, and move the left to the bottom bar. Lean to the left and hook your left shoulder in front of the hoop. Straighten your front (right) leg. This should feel relatively stable, and you can let go with your hands.
To get out, just reverse the way you came in.
This pose is similar to Wine Glass, but there your hips are in front of the hoop.
